The person at the front desk was an absolute horror. The air vent in the room was covered in black dust hanging from the vent. The bathroom is shared amongst 4 patients.

They were rebuilding the entire interior of the facility and had to be commended for putting in that kind of investment. Management appears to be dedicated to their mission but that dedication doesn’t spread down the line, at least not consistently. They were decent and weren’t large, but that’s not their fault since they bought an existing facility. The food was decent, but the portions were abysmally small. My mom was in Hillcrest Raleigh at Crabtree Valley for about a month for rehab. It was during COVID, so I can only visit with her outside.

My husband was brought to Hillcrest from surgery at a nearby hospital. From the moment he was carried in, I was not allowed to see him.
They are very compassionate and listen to my concerns. Some of the CNA’s are really good, some others, not so much. You have options though if you don’t like what is being served. I would like to see more interaction like the dining open so the residents can see other people.

This is probably the most important factor in choosing a facility and makes Hillcrest a potential destination. Try using the call bell and HOPE someone shows up within a minute or two, unlikely although you can clearly hear employees laughing and talking right outside your door. You'll need to share a room and hope for the best regarding a roommate. Although the website claims their chef is something resembling a world-class gourmet, the meals are barely adequate and rarely hot by the time they are delivered to you.
Hillcrest Raleigh is situated on over 6 acres nestled in the hills above Crabtree Valley. Our private, park-like setting is surrounded by beautifully manicured lawns and landscaped gardens. Quiet, private and restful; yet conveniently located in the heart of Raleigh’s lovely Crabtree Valley neighborhood. 3 stars compared to the NC average of 3.47 and a National average of 3.12. 3 stars compared to the NC average of 3.07 and a National average of 3.33. 3 stars compared to the NC average of 2.51 and a National average of 3.15.
The rooms were sparse -- certainly not elegant. I didn’t go into the dining room, but I saw it through the windows. It looked like everybody was enjoying it, and certainly their menu was very nice.
